Why chose to practice Pilates with me?
Because I get it!
I know how hard it is to include exercise in your weekly routine
I’m not your typical instructor, I take a contemporary approach to fitness. I’ve experienced life getting in the way of making the right decisions for my health and fitness. I have had injuries which have caused weight gain and hindered my ability to stay on track with exercise.
That’s why I strive to make my classes friendly and inclusive. I will always encourage you to find your own level with Pilates, I want to empower you to be able to push when you can and then scale back when you need to. When you practice Pilates with me, I invest my time in you to make sure you have all the options for each exercise so you can practice safely and with confidence.
Hi there, I’m Catherine!
I’m a fully qualified Pilates instructor, who is a little smug about having a job that doesn’t feel like work!
I have had many roles throughout my career and they have mainly been helping people to achieve their goals, whether that was a colleague who needed support, an art student trying to follow their dreams or helping someone living with long covid or a long-term condition find their way back into physical activity.
I LOVE Pilates, and I’m always excited about teaching people the Pilates Method.
It’s such a versatile exercise, which is inclusive of everyone, the exercises can easily be adapted to suit a person’s needs. That’s what I love most.
My experiences have given me insight into how important it is to find the time to exercise when things aren’t going exactly as planned. It’s a guaranteed moment in your day that will bring you some happiness, a sense of achievement and the feeling of earnt smugness to take with you for the rest of the day.
I’ll help you build your strength, flexibility and confidence – as Joseph Pilates said “Through the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning this unique trinity of a balanced body, mind and spirit can ever be attained. Self-confidence follows.”
My Qualifications
I’m a fully qualified Pilates instructor, I gained my qualification in 2019 with Future Fit UK (who have trained Olympians such as Dame Kelly Holmes), I have since added qualifications for pre and post-natal Pilates, Pilates with Small equipment and Pilates for common orthopaedic conditions, and Chair based Pilates.
I’m passionate about Pilates because it changes people’s lives
…it helps us to live longer, become stronger and build the most important thing which is vital for good mental health and wellbeing which we can lose as adults if not nurtured, and that is our mind and body connection.
My classes are small and inclusive and it’s important to me that everyone works at their own level. I will always give you plenty of options so you can make the class your own. The sessions are light-hearted, but also a place to get stronger, fitter and more flexible.
It’s not easy to take those first steps to positive change but it’s possible and I have every faith that I will be able to help you take those first steps. That’s why I offer flexible membership. Committing to 4 weeks is going to help you get results however if life gets in the way one month you can easily take a break.
Pilates will not be easy right away and that’s okay!
Allow yourself to enjoy the process of learning about your body and moving in a new way.
Why mixed-ability Pilates?
Pilates is great for anyone looking to get back into exercise as it can be tailored to your needs. Whether a beginner or returning to Pilates, my classes will accommodate your ability. The majority of my classes are mixed ability and that’s on purpose. With each exercise you may experience your body responding differently, for example, with some exercises, you may need to do a basic version but for others, you may be able to do a more advanced version. This means having the option to push a bit harder or go a bit gentler is available to you from day one.
Learning the principles of Pilates is a continuous journey. Having beginners and more experienced practitioners together means that everyone will recap the basics – in Pilates, the basics doesn’t mean easy, they are fundamental and should be part of every class.
Some of my happy students
You’re friendly and encouraging without being pushy. I feel like if I can’t do an exercise now that that’s ok – I will get it eventually. You suggest different levels and again it’s ok if I don’t do the hardest one.
I like Catherine’s class because they are small groups and you don’t feel out of place.
Everyone is as good as they are and it doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable.
